There are two types of Shanghai weather: very hot and very cold. Despite being located on the coast, Shanghai sees very few mild weather days per year. The best times to visit the city are during spring and autumn when Shanghai’s weather is at its most comfortable, staying around 20-25°C and remaining dry and sunny. The summer is Shanghai’s rainy season, so expect heavy monsoon rains, especially in the afternoon, while during the winter, temperatures hover around or below freezing and warm clothing and heavy coats are advisable. Shanghai’s climate is very hot and humid during the summer, with temperatures soaring into the 40-45°C range, so if you plan to visit Shanghai during the summer, it is best to pack lightweight clothing that is breathable and comfortable.
